In this project I was changing the look of a photo by changing the code of the photo. Code appears as an abundant amount of characters and multiple lines of code. There is also a certain program that you must download in order for you to be able to hack any photos. In the photo that hacked I just removed code in multiple locations which created these lines that run across my photo now. Depending on where I would remove code that's where the hack would appear on the photo. If you are hacking your photo and remove to much of the code it's possible for you to break the photo. On the other hand if you don't change enough of the photo nothing will happen to the photo. I spent multiple days hacking my photo this was very frustrating to me because of how difficult it was for a hack to appear for me and when a hack would show up it would be fairly insignificant. If your photo is to large it'll be hard to get it to have any significant hack. So if you're going to hack a photo it would be best for you to use a smaller one. Because mine was bigger it was difficult for me to get any hack to happen. With a smaller photo it will become much easier to get a good significant hack to appear. With a big photo there is so much code that you have to remove a lot more to get the same hack that was on a smaller sized photo. But you cant remove all that code from the same place because then you have a better chance of removing important information that is necessary for the photo to actually appear. When the photo is smaller for one you have to remove less code but because of this you have a better chance of not removing vital information.
When you hack you need to make a copy of the original photo so you don't mess p the original photo. But when you're hacking you will end up making multiple photo hacks. you will most likely make at least 20 hacked photos until you make one that you really like. I've seen the hacks that other students made and from seeing there hacks I've noticed that there is quite a variety of what a hack can look like. It can create lines like you see on my photo below but I've also seen hacked photos that drag a section of the photo down or up. With this hack it covers a section of the photo with the section of the photo that was dragged in front of it. I've seen hacks that creates a section of the photo to look like TV static as well as hacks that can create a color tint over the whole photo. there are hacks that create an overlay effect with the photo. It basically duplicates the photo and makes one of the photos translucent. There was also a lot more photos that had lines going up and down the photo rather than across the photo. Some other students were able to hack there photo so much that you couldn't tell what the original photo was. Students would also put a filter on the original photo so that they have something else to work with when they try to hack the photo.
After the hacked photo has been created you can print it out or upload it to your social medias. I would like to try and make a series where I use different photos and put the hack in the spot that'll cover the person or whatever the normal focal point would be of the photo. I would also like to get photos that are all similar in concept but each with different variety of hacks. have different hacks but have them each go from smaller amount of a hack to a more heavily hacked photo. For example with my photo you see here it would go from less lines across the photo in one image and gradually have copies of the photo with more lines running across it. It would also be a cool idea to place these hacked photos in the same location as the photo. But I personally don't want to continue creating in this way because of the fact that I don't understand why sometimes I can remove barely any code and the photo will end up broken but sometimes I can remove lots of code and noting will happen or vary little will change. If I would be able to understand which pieces of code are necessary to keep so that the photo won't break or if I could figure out which pieces of code would do what. As well as the fact that if you loose your file it would be extremely difficult to recreate the hack that you had lost also I don't enjoy creating art on the computer as much as I do physical objects.
